Senior Auditor

Fairfax/Washington DC CPA firm, Gurman & Company, PLLC, seeks to hire a Senior Auditor to work under the Audit Manager and help maintain the continued the growth of firm.

Job Description: The Senior Auditor is responsible for creating annual audit schedules pertaining to the audit cycles. Schedules are submitted to the Audit Manager for approval of audits to take place during the year. When planning the audit schedules, the Senior Auditor takes into consideration resources, past records of audits and key personnel in various departments that are points of contact for an audit. The Senior Auditor position is a hybrid administrative position which means an equal amount of time is spent between monitoring the audit process, work environment and staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA are required.
  • At least three years of financial statement audit experience at a public accounting firm.


  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Government Auditing Standards (GAS Yellow Book), OMB Circulars, and Generally Accepted Governmental Accounting Standards (GAGAS).
  • Accuracy as well as work quality and application of professional and Firm standards.
  • Must be highly skilled in use of Excel, Word, computer accounting software programs and business systems.
  • Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
  • Must have the ability to compare, analyze and interpret facts and figures promptly.
  • Written and oral communication skills are also important to correspond with clients as well as managers orally or in written form about the results of the audits.
  • Working with limited supervision, taking ownership of identified issues and not waiting to act upon them.
  • Keeping professionally current with respect to changes in accounting pronouncements, auditing standards and industry practices.


  • Maintain steady contact with clients throughout the business year.
  • Follow the progress of the work during an engagement in relation to budgeted time and scheduled dates of completion.
  • Keep the Audit Manager informed of all-important developments in the work. The Senior Auditor will also present any major problems that occur, with all the facts, his or her conclusions, and recommendations.
